Geagea: Hezbollah-FPM “terrorism machine” affects democracy

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said that the “terrorism and repression machine” led by Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement is deforming the democracy, affecting in consequence the economy.          

During a dinner ceremony attended by Lebanese Forces business organizations in Meerab, Geagea criticized the statement of a “terrorism and repression machine” MP in which he said that President Michel Suleiman is the president of disruption, describing it as wrong. He noted that the 8.9 trillion LBP draft law was rejected by the parliament contrary to what they are trying to illustrate.          

“The other party wants President Suleiman to sign the decree despite all the legal and constitutional violations that it entails, since no one can implement a law on expenses already made, because, then, it will be considered a compromise and the President has the right not to sign a compromise”, said Geagea.         

Gegea condemned the reaction expressed towards Mawlawi’s arrest in Tripoli, adding “if security apparatuses and this irresponsible government acted in an unacceptable manner, we should not react this way, but the government’s reaction was more surprising”.        

Geagea reiterated that the Lebanese people need a new electoral law and cannot go on with the 1960’s law, noting that the Lebanese Forces wants a new electoral law which can be more representative, more developed and more consistent with the Taif agreement.
