Prime Minister Saad Hariri reiterated Wednesday during the cabinet session that failure to reach a new electoral law means that the cabinet has failed.
Following the session, Information Minister Melhem al-Riachi noted that insistence has been expressed toward reaching a new electoral law, revealing that the extension of the mandate of central Bank Governor Riad Salameh was not discussed during the meeting.
Al-Riachi stressed that the issue of TeleLiban was not discussed as well, noting that the recruitment of 2000 volunteers for the Lebanese army has been discussed.
Prior to the session, Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq said that there are no new developments concerning the electoral law, adding that they still have until June 19 to discuss the new law or hold the elections according to the existing one.
