Itidal, a Syrian child refugee, was transported to St. Louis hospital in a critical condition as her weak heart was struggling to keep beating.
According to interrogations with the child’s father and his wife, Itidal lives away from her mother and she constantly beats herself; but the marks on her body raise doubts over this possibility.
The case remains the responsibility of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which is in charge of the refugees’ affairs. In this context, a UNHCR official said that they will follow-up on the case.
