Even though the new vote law has been published in the Official Gazette on June 17 and even though the article 43 of said law stipulates the need to hold sub-elections in case of vacancy of any parliamentary seat; however, no signs indicate that these sub-election are expected to be held any time soon, given that there are vacant seats at the parliament.
Until today, the Interior Ministry remains in the stage of studying means to hold these elections.
In this context, sources revealed that two meetings have been held under the chairmanship of Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq and in the presence of a number of concerned officials and experts to discuss the necessary administrative, logistical and financial measures to be taken.
On another note, legal experts said that the Interior Ministry is technically ready to hold these elections, in Kesserwan (to fill the seat that became vacant by the election of Michel Aoun as president) and in Tripoli (to fill the 2 seats that became vacant by the resignation of MP Robert Ghanem and the death of MP Bader Wannous).
