Prime Minister Saad Hariri stressed that he support the swift and safe return of the Syrian refugees, adding that “they will not force the Syrian refugees to return to Syria, under any circumstance.”
During the meeting of the Supreme Steering Committee for the Displaced held at the Grand Serail, Hariri noted that he will tackle this issue in close coordination and planning with the United Nations and its specialized agencies.
“The conditions for their return have been met in accordance with international law,” he added.
Prime Minister Saad Hariri chaired the meeting in the presence of Ministers of Education Marwan Hamadeh, Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil, Interior and Municipalities Nouhad al-Mashnouq, Social Affairs Pierre Bou Assi, the president advisor Elias Bou Saab and the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag.
The meeting was also attended by ambassadors and representatives from the United States, Germany, Britain, European Union, Norway, Netherlands, Canada, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Australia, China, France, Kuwait, Unites Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as representatives of UN agencies working in Lebanon and PM Hariri’s advisor on refugees’ affairs Nadim al-Monla.
