The Parliament passed during Tuesday’s legislative session the part related to the pay scale.
The council also passed the item pertaining to granting the retirees their rights divided over three years.
In this context, Speaker Nabih Berri stressed that nothing is given for free; therefore there will be taxes and reforms.
Berri had also stressed that the pay scale is a right for the people and must be passed while taking into consideration the situation of the treasury and the public interest.
For his part, Prime Minister Saad Hariri emphasized that he does not approve of the pay scale without guaranteeing resources.
“If some people changed their minds regarding the taxes as they say, we do not want the pay scale,” he noted.
In turn, Change and Reform Secretary MP Ibrahim Kanaan stated that “we are days apart from passing a budget that ensures a saving of LBP 1000 billion compensating for previous tax procedures for funding.”
In this regard, sources said that the pay scale will be passed within a principle of guaranteeing the required credits when passing the budget.
Prior to the session, Lebanese Forces bloc member MP George Adwan pointed out that “they are coming with a determination to pass the pay scale and the budget.”
Speaking to LBCI, he stressed that the pay scale will be passed and linked to the budget.
Demonstrations in Riad al-Solh
During the parliamentary session, demonstrations were staged in Riad al-solh Square to exert pressure on the deputies to pass the pay scale.
Consequently, the security forces briefly blocked the road outside an-Nahar building leading to the Parliament to prevent the access of the protesters.
