The latest battle in Arsal raised question marks over whether it will bring back division between two political camps that lived in conflict during 11 years, March 14 and March 8.
Within the March 14, the stances were conflicting. While Prime Minister Saad Hariri said he would have preferred the Lebanese army to carry out the operation, Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea said that liberating the mountainous regions is an important thing and it helps restoring stability for the residents of the border towns, even if Hezbollah is implementing an Iranian agenda, as he said.
However, the Future Movement supported other parties with firm stances, including the Kataeb party and March 14’s coordinator Fares Soueid.
While the division over Hezbollah’s arms is not news, the new rift could be caused by the statement of US President Donald Trump regarding Hezbollah in the presence of PM Hariri, and the lack of any statement from the latter in this matter. Will this fact cause a debate during the cabinet session of next week?
