Another Syrian-Lebanese border incident, Abdel Ghani Jabbawi killed

The people of Arsal bade their final farewells to Lebanese citizen Abdel Ghani Jabbawi who was killed when his pickup truck was struck by bullets fired from the Syrian side of the border. His brothers, Hassan and Bahij, Abdullah Hassan Aoudeh, and Nayef Abdullah Aoudeh were also in the truck that was fired upon last night in the Abou al-Ouyoun valley of Arsal.         

The funeral was held outside his house in Arsal with the participation of the town’s residents, the head and the members of the municipal council, the town’s mayor and the Future bloc’s coordinator in Arsal Bakr al-Hujairi.        

The President of the Municipal Council in Arsal, Ali al-Houjayri, noted that the victims were hunting rabbits at a farm on the Lebanese-Syrian border. He stressed that the source of fire was actually on the Lebanese side of the border and that the Syrian soldiers who were “inside the Lebanese territories” had ambushed the group.          

The Deputy head of Arsal’s Municipality told LBCI that the incident occurred in Lebanon, calling on President Michel Suleiman, PM Najib Mikati and LAF commander Jean Kahwaji to deter the repeated Syrian attacks on Lebanon in order to maintain stability and the citizens’ means of subsistence.         

Jabbawi’s brother, who was also at the scene of the clash, told LBCI that they were surprised to be ambushed by 60 Syrian soldiers in Lebanon, adding that they were 20 km from the border.
