Suleiman: LAF Lebanon's backbone, not to be disputed

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman declared Tuesday his stance on the LAF in regards to recent discourse relating to the latter, stating that the LAF is the backbone of the nation and any attempts at attacking the military institution will incite sedition and chaos upon the country. He added that the army does not need a defense lawyer, noting that the judiciary has the final word.           

In a word directed at LAF officers at Yarze, Suleiman said: “mistakes are made during the line of duty, yet mistakes made by politicians are worse ".
             
Speaking of Akkar the president reiterated the notion that “Akkar is the army, and the army is Akkar”, adding that “conspiracy” should not be allowed to play out its course, thus taking the country to a level worse than that of civil war.

Suleiman also stressed on his refusal to allow Lebanon to be dragged into regional conflict.       

In regards to the upcoming dialogue that Suleiman called for, he said that the national talks will not be held to display empty sentiments, or to redefine national doctrine especially since Lebanon’s enemy is "well known".

“The dialogue is to reconfirm the status of the LAF, and learn from national powers that harbored the resistance in times of strife".
