President Aoun: Our strategy is to preserve borders with Syria

President Michel Aoun confirmed on Saturday Lebanon's strategy in preserving its borders with Syria and staying away from its internal political affairs.

In an interview to the French daily Le Figaro, President Aoun noted that "Lebanon has enjoyed stability throughout the war in Syria, despite the rising rhetorical tensions triggered by some Lebanese politicians, and has succeeded in maintaining its national unity."

"Efforts are underway to support the Lebanese army to protect all citizens," he added.

Aoun reiterated the need for a rightful peace and finding a solution to the Palestinian cause, pointing to Israel's refusal of the two-state solution.

"Lebanon is a Francophone country and we are proud of that," affirmed Aoun, revealing that he would speak with French President Emmanuel Macaron about several issues and ask him to further boost the cultural, administrative and military cooperation between Lebanon and France.
