The cabinet approved the appointment of the Economic and Social Council, which includes 12 female members in a bid to empower women, while the council’s Director General will be appointed at a later date.
During a session held on Thursday, the cabinet also approved the needed credits to fund the parliamentary elections.
The ministers decided to extend the term of electrical installation service providers BUS and KVA until 2021.
For his part, Culture Minister Ghattas Khoury declared that the cabinet approved the draft law pertaining to the protection of heritage buildings and sites.
“Heritage buildings will no longer be destroyed to be replaced by skyscrapers,” he said.
In turn, Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said that he asked PM Saad Hariri to issue a final decision regarding the document concerning the refugees, adding that Hariri promised to hold a meeting for the ministerial committee tasked with said issue during the upcoming week in order to discuss it and refer it to the cabinet.
