Speaker Berri: Parliament saved Lebanon during presidential vacuum

Speaker Nabih Berri said on Tuesday that “Lebanon is heading towards parliamentary elections on their due time and for the first time under a proportional representation vote law.

He also highlighted the importance of these elections and their role “in safeguarding Lebanon’s stability.”

Berri’s comments were made during his meeting with a delegation of the European Parliament headed by Marisa Matias.

“Despite the extension of its term, this Parliament has saved Lebanon during presidential vacuum,” he added.

On another note, Berri stressed that the most important aid that Europe could provide for Lebanon to address the Syrian refugee crisis is to find a political solution in Syria.

He concluded by praising the “effective European participation” in the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon.
