Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah reassured Sunday the Lebanese people, calling on everyone to maintain calm and stability and noting that what was called a political settlement put the country on the right path and it is in no one’s interest to return to the previous situation.
In a speech dedicated to comment on Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s resignation, Nasrallah stressed that the resignation was a Saudi decision dictated to PM Hariri and forced on him, and it was not his wish or intention, noting that all the Lebanese approve of this conclusion.
He noted that everyone was awaiting the outcome of Hariri’s first visit to Saudi Arabia and expecting that the kingdom will exert pressure on the prime minister to force him to resign and throw away the cabinet.
“The form and place of the resignation reveals Saudi Arabia’s intervention in the Lebanese internal affairs, while it accuses others of interfering,” he stated.
Commenting on the statement, the Shiite party’s chief said that the text was drafted by the Saudis and its content does not go in line with the rhetoric and language adopted by Hariri since his was appointed at prime minister.
Nasrallah emphasized that they were not hoping for this resignation to happen and they thought that things were moving forward in a reasonable manner, where all the parties were meeting at cabinet sessions and committees’ meetings to find solutions for the local issues.
Hezbollah’s chief called for preserving calm and patience until the situation becomes clearer and the real reasons behind the resignations come to light, stressing the need to abstain from listening to speculations and rumors and urging for the prevention of political and media escalation and sectarian incitement for it will only lead to more tension in the country.
“We are keen on Lebanon’s security and stability; there is nothing to worry about,” he added.
Nasrallah denied reports saying that the reason behind Hariri’s resignation comes from inside Lebanon, but from Saudi Arabia.
“Is the reason an internal conflict between the princes of the royal family, or a conflict over money or is it related to a conflict between the crown prince and other members from the family? Does this mean that Hariri got lost between princes or is Saudi Arabia not satisfied with his performance and wants to replace him with another who complies with its policies?” Nasrallah asked in a series of questions.
Regarding the war with Israel, Hezbollah’s head pointed out that Israel does not work for Saudi Arabia but for the United States and its interests, noting that Israel will not engage in a war against Lebanon unless it was fast and successful.
