Minister of Interior Nouhad Machnouq said on Monday that the meeting that took place between Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and resigned Prime Minister Saad Hariri has put an end for many rumors.
 
“It gives an impression that Hariri will come back to Lebanon in a few days,” Machnouq said following his meeting with Mufti Abdel Latif Derian.
 
On another note, the minister said that President Michel Aoun “acted wisely and created a balance following the vacuum that had arisen due to Hariri's resignation.”
 
Saudi King Salman received Hariri in Riyadh on Monday, Saudi-owned al-Arabiya television reported, without elaborating.
In a televised speech on Saturday (November 4), Hariri - a Sunni Muslim - shocked his small nation by saying he was resigning and feared an assassination plot against him, accusing Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah of breeding strife in the Arab world.
His resignation stunned Beirut's political establishment, brought down the coalition government and sparked a new political crisis. It has thrust Lebanon into the front line of the regional rivalry between Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia and Shi'ite Muslim Iran that has also buffeted Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Bahrain.  
Hariri's coalition government grouped nearly all of Lebanon's main parties and took office last year in a political deal that made President Michel Aoun, a Hezbollah ally, president.
