Solidarity gathering for journalist Afif Diab

Following an invitation from “Sawt al-Chaab” radio station and “al-Nidaa” magazine, a gathering in solidarity with journalist Afif Diab was held Monday, to condemn the attack he was exposed to in front of the building of Ministry of Information by a group of people close to Ziad Al-Homsi - who is accused of collaborating with Israel. The attack came after Afif Diab published an article in Saturday’s issue of Al-Akhbar newspaper.

The participants in the meeting stressed that the media is a red line not to be crossed, adding that any violation committed by a journalist should be referred to the judiciary.

During the meeting, all journalists were called on to confront the “authoritarian and sectarian approach”, holding the government responsible for Diab’s attack.

The Director General of the ministry of Information, Hussan Falha, stressed, in his speech, that it is unacceptable for anyone to attack a journalist, regardless of his/her affiliation.
