REPORT: Lebanon’s defense strategy, between international demands and internal facts

A balanced report was issued by the International Support Group for Lebanon from Paris, praising the statement issued by the cabinet on the 5th of December, after PM Saad Hariri withdrew his resignation, which stipulates the disassociation policy.

The group also called for abiding by said policy, in accordance with the content of the Baabda Declaration of 2012.

The report also reiterated the need to abide by the UN resolutions, especially resolution 1559 that calls for dismantling and disarming all Lebanese militias, and the resolution 1701, based on which the July 2006 war ended.

The support group also called on all the Lebanese factions to resume discussions in order to agree over a national defense strategy, praising the statement issued by President Michel Aoun in this regard.
