Deputies cited Speaker Nabih Berri as saying that he insists on holding the parliamentary elections on time, noting that some parties are attempting to raise some issues that could prevent the elections from taking place.
“Suggesting amendments to the electoral law now open the door for overthrowing the law and preventing the elections,” he said, reiterating that they will not allow it to happen.
“We waited ten years to reach a new electoral law, it does not need amendments and we will not discuss it further at the parliament,” he stated.
Commenting on the decree crisis, Berri explained that “he is on the receiving end and he no longer has anything to offer.”
