Head of Media and Telecom committee MP Hassan Fadlallah stressed commitment to objectivity when discussing internal matters, since the country needs pacifying, emphasizing the need to implement the media law and to give the journalists full freedom within the legal frameworks.
“Those who launch irresponsible remarks have to bear the responsibility of what happens in the streets, the media will cover the events,” he stated following the committee meeting.
He added that, during the meeting, they discussed the development of the investigative journalism in Lebanon, noting that those who uncover scandals should not be prosecuted.
Commenting on the issue of illegal communications, he said that “he will not launch a judgement in advance on this matter,” pointing out that the case is being handled by the judiciary.
“If the judiciary acquitted the accused party from charges of illegal international communications, we do not have a political stance over the issue,” he stated.
