Syrian massacres according to confessional demography
Massacres were committed in the suburbs of Syria’s largest cities like Homs, Hama, Lattikia. The confessional map shows that these suburbs are “areas of contiguity” between confessions, loyal to the regime and opposition.

Houla massacre took place in May 25, 2012 during Friday “Damascus, our appointment is near”. The massacre’s death toll reached 110 deaths, including 30 children.

Qubair massacre took place in June 6, 2012 and more 120 deaths, including 50 children and 25 women, were reported.

Al-Hafa massacre was committed in June 8, 2012, where more than 22 were dead, mostly women and children.

According to Syria’s confessional demography, al-Houla is a region of both Sunni and Shiite confessions, while Qubair is by majority Sunni. Al-Hafa is like a small Sunni  area inside a big Alawite region, just like Sunni localities such as Lattakia, Tartous, Joubla and Banias.

While the Syrian regime accuses terrorist groups of committing these massacres, the opposition accuses the regime forces of covering for al-Shabbiha, who are directly coordinating with the Syrian army.
