Amin Maalouf wears the “green robe”, carries the sword of the French Academy

The isolation of novelist Amin Maalouf did not last so long since the French Academy brought him back to the heart of Paris.

It is worth noting that Maalouf is the second author of Arab origins, after Algerian Asya Jabbar, to join the prestigious institution.

The novelist found a safe haven in France after war broke out in Lebanon, occupying Claude Lévi-Strauss’ seat in the academy. Thus, Maalouf culminated his literary journey which was marked by numerous accolades, mainly the Prix Congourt that he received for his famous novel “The Rock of Tanios”.

Maalouf was born in Lebanon but spent his childhood in Egypt.The cultural diversity that Maalouf enjoyed must have been the greatest influence on his writings.

Amin Maalouf wrote about "the exile" and “the identities that kill” and eventually wore “the green robe” and carried the sword of the French Academy.

The Lebanese novelist has certainly deserved to join the “immortals”, a rank granted to the members of the French Academy.
