Hariri calls for approaching electricity issue differently and away from politics

Prime Minister Saad Hariri expressed regret over the cabinet’s failure to make any progress in the issue of electricity, amid growing need for energy, noting that the matter was often approached in a non-technical manner.

During the cabinet session, Hariri said studies have been conducted regarding temporary solutions until he power plants are founded, but these studies were not adopted.

“We are still looking for solutions, while solutions are possible and await a decision that reduces the citizens’ suffering,” he said, adding that the current situation is only benefitting the owners of power generators without any advantage to the state.

The PM added that this issue must be approached differently and away from politics, with focusing on Lebanon’s interest and that of the state’s treasury.

Hariri also asked Minister Cesar Abi Khalil to distribute his report to the ministers, pointing out that a cabinet session will be scheduled to finalize the electricity issue.

He asked the ministers who have practical solution propositions to present them so they can be discussed during the session dedicated to this file.
