Machnouq: Security apparatuses working around the clock to fight terrorism

Minister of Interior Nouhad Machnouq said on Friday that the five-year- strategic plan initiated by the Internal Security Forces will turn this apparatus into modern and professional police forces with intelligence capacities that help in addressing any terrorism-related challenge.

Machnouq’s comments were made during a conference held in Paris on cooperation to combat the financing of terrorism.

He also noted that this plan is in line with the UN Security Council’s resolution 1701 which states that weapons should only be in the hands of the Lebanese official military apparatuses.

Machnouq also stressed that the stability in Lebanon faces everyday several challenges, adding that the security apparatuses work around the clock to fight terrorism, while there is a political consensus on the policy of self-dissociation to address the worsening crises in the region, while our economy suffers from the repercussions of the crisis of Syrian displacement.

“Despite all challenges, Lebanon is still committed to its democratic system which forms a main deterrent against the spread of extremist ideas,” he added.
