A deadly dust storm Wednesday in northern India has claimed at least 112 lives and injured hundreds more.
In the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP), the death toll has risen to 74, while in Rajasthan it has killed 38 people, according to Indian state broadcaster All India Radio.
Officials said most of the deaths occurred due to collapsing of houses, falling of trees and struck by intense bursts of lightning.
The harsh weather conditions also affected neighboring state of Haryana, where a Chinese employer recorded the ferocity of the storm en route from Panipat to Safidon around 15:30 local time.
Caught right in the middle of the storm, Fan Guofeng and his colleagues had to stop the car from time to time due to poor visibility. Strong wind swayed trees and broke branches, after that hailstones started pelting their windshield.
Most of the broken trees and branches on the road had been cleared away when they drove back about an hour later, according to Fan.
The UP and Rajasthan local governments have announced a compensation of 5,993 U.S. dollars to the next of kin of the deceased.
Disaster management work is currently underway.
