Election observation committee chief: Media outlets that breached electoral silence will be referred to Publications Court

President of the Election Observation Committee, Judge Nadim Abdel Malek, said in a statement to the National News Agency, that any media outlet that has breached the electoral silence would be referred to the Publications Court.

Abdel Malak held media outlets responsible for disseminating news that involve politicians that their institution supports on different levels despite Article 78 of the electoral law which clearly states that electoral silence should last until ballots are closed.

He noted that speaking about general facts is not considered a violation of electoral silence, stating however that calling on supporters to vote is indeed a violation.
