President Michel Aoun stressed Thursday that “one of the greatest threats Lebanon is currently facing is the international stance over the issue of the refugees, which hints at an indirect resettlement that contradicts the country’s constitution and sovereignty,” reiterating that this is will not be accepted at all.
In a speech he delivered during the launching of the 5th edition of the Lebanese Diaspora Energy conference, Aoun said that “the fair representation granted by the proportional electoral system will guarantee a political stability needed in Lebanon to face the challenges that await it on all levels,” noting that the difference in opinions and positions over some matters will be voiced in the parliament where all the political forces are represented and are expected to assume their responsibilities to overcome whatever challenges stand in the way of building the nation.
“Lebanon is heading towards a new stage with high expectations since the recent elections have produced a new parliament representing all political factions,” he stated.
The president praised the international conferences that linked Lebanon to the expatriates.
