Syria's violence kills 63, including 18 pro-regime forces

At least 63 people, including 18 soldiers belonging to the Syrian regime forces, were killed in Sunday's violence, the Syrian Observatory for Human rights reported.

"Regime forces have dismantled their roadblocks from inside of Deir al-Zor after incurring heavy losses from rebels. They have withdrawn from residential areas and are now shelling the city from the outskirts. The victims are mostly civilians," a source at a hospital in Deir al-Zor told Reuters.

Syrian authorities have barred most independent media from the country, making difficult independent verification of events on the ground.

Meanwhile SANA reported that Syrian border forces confront “terrorists” who infiltrated from Turkey, killing several.

For their part, EU Foreign Ministers are set to discuss the Syrian situation at Monday meeting, according to a Spanish Foreign Ministry source.
