Merkel meets Berri on second day of official visit

Speaker Nabih Berri met on Friday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Ain el-Tineh.

During the meeting, discussions reportedly featured high over the deteriorating economic situation in Lebanon due to the conflict in neighboring Syria and the burden of the Syrian refugees crisis.

On another note, Berri stressed the importance of the Lebanese diaspora in Germany which forms a "bridge of cooperation" between the two countries.

The Speaker also thanked Germany for its participation in the UNIFIL's naval force, stressing the importance of its role in preserving peace in Lebanon through the implementation of resolution No. 1701.

This as Merkel left Ain el-Tineh without giving any statement.

The German Chancellor arrived on Thursday afternoon in Beirut for talks with the country's top officials.
