Introduction to the evening news 02-07-2012

The wind of change is blowing on the Lebanese scene:       

On the positive front, an agreement will be likely reached during the evening legislative session following assiduous efforts exerted over the weekend. These efforts were fueled during a meeting at the parliament attended by Berri, Mikati and Siniora.       

On the negative front, Akkar and Sidon saw major changes. The infiltration of Syrian forces into Lebanon as well as the detention of two General Security members prompted Lebanese President Michel Sleiman to take a very advanced stance. Sleiman denounced the act, saying that the infiltration violates international laws and regulations as well as the principles of coordination between both countries.    

Meanwhile, the situation in Sidon is still unstable due to Sheikh Ahmad Assir’s adherence to his stance and sit-in.     

The Lebanese scene suffered another setback after Saudi Arabia issued a warning, urging its citizens not to travel to Lebanon “until further notice”.    

The UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait have earlier taken similar measures.      

Hezbollah also announced that Israel had remotely detonated a Resistance’s wireless tapping device in al-Zrariyah .    

As for the Syrian issue, the Syrian opposition held today a new summit in Cairo as relevant decisions will be issued tomorrow.
