Caretaker Defense Minister Yaacoub Sarraf received Friday US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, Robert Karem, and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of US Ambassador Elizabeth Richard.
During the meeting, Sarraf highlighted "the continued cooperation between Lebanon and the United States to serve the interest of Lebanon and the region."
He stressed that "Lebanon is a fundamental element of stability in the entire region and a comprehensive solution must pass through it."
The minister praised the Lebanese army's adherence to its convictions and principles, commending its many "skills and expertise which make of it the best army in the region."
He underscored in this context "the crucial political cover provided by the [presidential] era to the Lebanese Army."
Sarraf also praised the "performance of the US ambassador to Lebanon and the important role she plays," and thanked the United States for its continued support for Lebanon, especially with regard to assisting the Lebanese Army.
For his part, Karem pointed out the "cooperation between the Lebanese and American armies," stressing "the continuation of partnership between them", and saluting the "achievements of the Lebanese Army in maintaining stability and security in the region and combating terrorism."
