In a statement issued by the United States State Department, the US called on its citizens to reconsider or avoid travel to certain areas in Lebanon.
These areas include:
The border with Syria due to terrorism and armed conflict
The border with Israel due to the potential for armed conflict
Refugee settlements due to the potential for armed conflict
The statement urged the citizens to be aware of possible attacks in Lebanon; stating that terrorists may conduct attacks with little or no warning targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and local government facilities.
The State Department also recalled that “armed clashes have occurred along the Lebanese borders, in Beirut, and in refugee settlements,” adding that “the Lebanese Armed Forces have been brought in to quell the violence in these situations.”
This regular statement issued every six months by the US State Department, and which is based on events that occurred, means according the sources that “there have been no changes to the advisory level for US travelers to Lebanon.”
However, Lebanese security sources say they did not receive any US security warning on the situation in Lebanon and they do not have any information on any possible terrorist attacks.
