Iran: There is a plot against us to influence Syria

An Iranian foreign ministry spokesman called for the U.S. government on Sunday to "stop creating more wars" in the Middle East, and to "focus on bringing peace and stability".

Ramin Mehmanparast was addressing a news conference in Tokyo on the sidelines of a conference on Afghanistan.

Mehmanparast said the most important issue in the Middle East is the "situation in Syria".

"There is a plot against us to influence Syria by the intervention using foreign powers, especially by the military," he said.

UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan told the French daily Le Monde recently that more attention needed to be paid to the role of long-time Syrian ally Iran, and that countries supporting military actors in the conflict were making the situation worse.
