EDL payment booths reopen, contract workers threaten to escalate action

The Electricité du Liban (EDL) contract workers follow-up committee announced on Friday that it will reopen the payment booths since "the institution promised contract workers to pay them their salaries on Monday."

The contract workers called for a crowded sit-in in Jounieh on Monday if they do not receive their salaries.

The general director of Electricité du Liban (EDL) Kamal Hayek had denied, through LBCI, having called for security reinforcements around the EDL headquarters in Corniche el-Nahr.

Exclusive sources told LBCI on Friday that the security reinforcements around the EDL took place upon the request of the Interior Ministry to protect this public institution and ensure the best service to citizens.
