The Higher Defense Council said Wednesday that "President Michel Aoun, and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, have tasked the security services to take the necessary measures during the holidays so as to reduce and prevent security incidents and facilitate the affairs of the citizens and tourists.
In a statement issued following the Council’s meeting, the HDC addressed the security situation inside the Palestinian refugee camps and the social and health conditions of the refugees, especially after the decline in "UNRWA" aid.
The Council also renewed its request to the concerned security services to take into consideration the principles and standards adopted internationally during the investigations carried out with detainees, especially in terms of respecting human rights.
The president raised the issue of drug promotion, especially in universities, schools and nightclubs, and asked the concerned security forces to take the necessary measures to combat this phenomenon which negatively affects the country's youth.
Aoun also called upon the concerned bodies to coordinate in the ongoing preparations for the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit to be held from January 16 till 20, 2019.
