Caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil stressed that the relations with Syria serve the interest of Lebanon and must not be used by any party for personal gains at the expense of Lebanon.
During a tour in Zahle, Bassil said that they are the first to call for Syria’s reinstatement within the Arab League, pointing out that “they will not follow the others when they decide to go to Syria.”
“War broke out in Syria and affected us by causing the closure of all Arab markets, and it is unacceptable to allow ourselves to remain affected at a time of peace,” he added.
The minister also explained that his party objected initially to the suspension of Syria’s membership at the Arab League and maintained good relations with the neighboring country.
