Interior and Municipalities Minister Raya al-Hassan said Wednesday that she has taken over a challenge, “because the Interior Ministry implements the law and serves the citizens,” stressing that it is also a challenge for her, since she is the first female minister of interior and she has to prove that Lebanese women can bear the burden of such heavy duties.
During the handover ceremony, al-Hassan said that she will complete the missions started by former Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq.
“We will continue what we have started yesterday at the ministry by removing the barriers and concrete walls from the road to facilitate the traffic and reduce jams,” she pointed out, noting she will work on imposing the traffic law.
On the security situation, Minister al-Hassan emphasized her determination to deal with the issue of arms chaos and random shooting, stressing that she will hold accountable anyone who violates the law.
Concerning violence against women, al-Hassan reminded all women to contact the security forces in case they were subject to any form of abuse, adding that “it is the duty of the security forces to protect women.”
