Maronite Bishops salute LAF on army day
In their monthly statement, Maronite Bishops saluted on Wednesday the LAF on army day, and called for economic reforms in Lebanon.

Bishop Samir Mazloum, reading the statement, said that the church cannot distance itself from impoverished peoples in Lebanon, sounding alarm bell for addressing economic state. He said that if issues remain unaddressed, Lebanon will become a bankrupt state, since play-up of prices is negatively affecting Lebanon. “The accumulation of national debt leaves Lebanon with no income for national investment, year after year”, the statement added.

In the statement, the Maronite Bishops noted that the purchase power of Lebanese citizens is decreasing day by day, resulting in the dissipation of the middle class and increase in the immigration. The government is not doing its part in the public sector, causing more people to slide underneath the poverty line.

They pointed that political divisions have paralyzed the government’s decision making process, stressing that the government must concentrate on its organizational role in the country. They called on the government to secure human rights through economic means, provide social justice and fight exploitation.

Addressing the electricity sector, the bishops hoped that this sector alongside all other infrastructural institutions should be overhauled to provide minimum means for citizens.
