President Aoun: Trump’s decision on Golan threatens Lebanon’s sovereignty

President Michel Aoun said on Sunday that US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights and Jerusalem as the capital of Israel violat all International resolutions, including Article 2, paragraph 4, of the United Nations Charter.

Aoun’s comments were made during his participation at the Arab Summit in Tunisia, whereby he noted that “such a decision does not only threaten the sovereignty of the brotherly state Syria, but also threatens as well the sovereignty of the Lebanese state, which owns lands that were gradually bitten off by Israel, mainly the Shebaa Farms, he Kfar Shuba Hills and the northern part of the village of Ghajar.”

On another note, Aoun voiced concerns over the insistence of the International community to keep the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, “despite its knowledge that Lebanon is no longer able to bear this burden.”

He also voiced concerns over linking the refugees return to a political solution in Syria.
