US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield met Wednesday with Lebanese officials and held discussions dubbed positive and real.
The discussions mainly focused on the proposal plan delivered to the US leadership regarding the demarcation of Lebanon’s southern land and maritime borders, a plan that holds a Lebanese unified position.
Satterfield is expected to intensify his meetings in order to lead the matters toward an executive course, since he is scheduled to visit Israel before returning to Lebanon next week.
Sources told LBCI that the Americans and Israelis agreed on the Lebanese proposal, which called for Lebanese-Israeli discussions mediated by the United Nations and sponsored by the United States, in order to resolve the conflicts on land and in the sea.
The sources revealed that the talks held by Satterfield in Beirut focused on determining the extent of the United Nations role in this case, as well as the level of representation expected from the Lebanese and Israeli sides in the indirect talks.
