LAF accused Merhebi of soliciting to murder Army Chief

The LAF leadership charged the member of “Lebanon First” bloc MP Mouin Merhebi with soliciting to murder the Army chief General Jean Qahwaji, libel, slander and sedition. Will this case lead to lift his immunity?          

The lawsuit is taking its legal course after Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn signed it, and is now in the hands of the acting public prosecutor who will be referring it, with a request to lift the immunity, to the Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi. In turn, Minister Qortbawi will be referring the case to the Parliament Speaker.       

In this context, Merhebi told LBCI that he is not hiding behind his immunity; however, the Army chief is the one hiding behind the military institution, noting that some people use the military institution to get to the presidency or for personal interests.           

Merhebi said that he does not seek support from anyone and he will never stop revealing the truths.           

According to sources made available to LBCI, the contacts have been activated in an attempt to calm the situation. In this context, Fouad Siniora called Merhebi asking him to stop slamming the Army.
