Kataeb bloc member MP Elias Hankash called Monday for the formation of a cabinet of experts as soon as possible, “since Lebanon is going through an unusual phase where there will be a long-awaited rebirth of the country.”
He added that the people have been in the streets for the past 26 days and they demanded the resignation of the cabinet and the formation of the a new government of experts, noting however that the cabinet resigned two weeks ago and no parliamentary consultations have been held yet.
In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Hankash stated that the ball is now in the ruling forces’ court, stressing that President Michel Aoun must set a date for the parliamentary consultations to be held.
“The parliamentary session scheduled for Tuesday is constitutional, but the priority today is for the formation of a technocratic cabinet,” he explained.
In the same regard, the MP raised question marks concerning the timing of tackling the draft law pertaining to the general amnesty, emphasizing that the Kataeb is against such law.
“A general amnesty law is usually passed after a war in order to turn a new page, but not in times like these, even if there are people facing injustice, but this can be dealt with by hastening the work of the courts and trials, not through general amnesty, which will reach 75% of the prisoners,” he continued.
MP Hankash reiterated that there is no confidence in the ruling class to implement the reform document, stating that the solution is in a new ruling class that can be formed through early parliamentary elections.
“The Kataeb party has made many achievements as well as many mistakes, but the party resigned from the former cabinet after objecting to the policy adopted and refused to take part in the last cabinet and did not grant it the vote of confidence,” he noted.
