Will the state take back the Telecom sector?

On October 17, a decision to impose a tax on Whatsapp calls ignited the revolution across Lebanon. 74 days later, new movements renewed outside the residence of caretaker Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Choucair, to protest against the renewal of contracts to the mobile operator companies in Lebanon.

 

The contracts with the mobile operators expire at the end of the current month, which means in two days. The cabinet, prior to its resignation, did not hold tender to receive offers for new companies to operate the sector.

 

In a statement issued ten days ago, Choucair voiced a preference to renew the existing contracts.
