Foreign Affairs Ministry condemns Soleimani’s assassination

The Lebanese Foreign Affairs Ministry condemned on Friday the “assassination of Qassem Soleimani, Abu Mahdi [al-Muhandis] and their companions.”

In a statement, the Ministry said that the attack is considered "a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and a dangerous escalation against Iran that would increase tensions in the region.”

“The Ministry always encourages prevailing the logic of dialogue, restraint and wisdom to solve problems instead of using force and violence in regional and international relations,” the statement added.

The Ministry called for "sparing the region the repercussions of the assassination and to distance Lebanon from the repercussions of this serious incident, because the country is in dire need for security and political stability to secure its exit from the stifling economic and financial crisis."
