Jamil Sayyed responds to accusations of involvement in Samaha’s case

A high-level security source told LBCI on Monday that the ISF Information Division’s investigations into the case of former Minister Michel Samaha revealed that Major General Jamil Sayyed accompanied him whilst smuggling explosives into Lebanon.   

In response, Major General Jamil Sayyed told LBCI that this was not the first time the Information Division mentions his name in Samaha’s case, adding “so long as the case is before the courts, there is no problem at hand”.        

Sayyed advised the Division not to "play around" in Samaha’s case "if it takes its job seriously".          

Sayyed considered that since Samaha's arrest a month ago, the director general of the ISF Major General Ashraf Rifi and the head of the ISF’s Information Division Wissam Hassan have mentioned his name in 4 leaked reports.       

“Samaha was lured by Hassan, Rifi and their political team; if he is guilty, he shall be punished”, he said, adding that the way this case is being tackled reminded him of that of late Rafik Hariri.   

“What is the reason behind these excessive leaks since the judge is the center of the appeal and not the public”, he questioned.       

Sayyed announced that Rifi and Hassan will be "thrown in jail", adding “the clandestine escape of witness and detective Milad Kfoury is a first in Lebanon and Samaha was lured into transporting the explosives”.    

“Besides, his car is too small and I could not have been in it with him since it would not even fit two donkeys”, Sayyed mockingly stated.

Judicial sources earlier told LBCI that Military Prosecutor Judge Sakr Sakr is looking into Sayyed’s case and is expected to refer it tomorrow to Military Investigative Judge Riad Abu Ghida to take necessary legal action.

Former Minister Samaha was arrested on Thursday 9th of August over involvement in explosion plots in several Lebanese regions and for transporting explosives to Lebanon.
