Rai: arming Syrian revolution “pours oil to the fire”

Maronite Patriarh Beshara Boutros Rai regretted the violence and bloodshed occurring in the Middle East region, noting that the Syrian crisis has turned into a civil war, as it was officially classified by the United Nations. Rai called for a political solution for the crisis through dialogue.

Patriarch Rai urged from India, the countries sending money and arms to support the Syrian crisis to stop “pouring oil to the fire”, because “this support is not leading the country towards peace, instead it is causing tragedy and death”, he added.

Rai said that the Dictatorships removed by Arab revolutions left behind it a void that might be filled by regimes that are no less authoritarian than their predecessors. He declared that “Lebanon’s regime is qualified to be an example for the democratic governments in countries struggling to find an alternative to their existing regimes”.
