Assir takes to the streets… again
Sheikh of the Bilal Bin Rabbah Mosque, Ahmad Assir took to the streets of Beirut today, staging a protest in Martyr Square to denounce the anti-Islam film “Innocence of Muslims”.
Lebanese-Palestinian singer Fadel Shaker partook in the demonstration, chanting prayers at the speakers podium as a prelude to Assir’s word.

In his speech Sheikh Assir accused all nations that allow such defamatory and demeaning material of being racists and extremists for  instigating extreme reactions around the world.

He thanked the Lebanese President Michel Sleiman and Patriarch Beshara Rai for their stances regarding the anti-Islam film and for ensuring civil peace by denouncing the film.

Assir said that Christians are uninvolved in this offense since they are “above such standards”. He thanked President Michel Sleiman and Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai for condemning this offense.

“Responding to one wrongdoing with another is against the teachings of our prophet and Islam and we do not endorse it”, he said.

On Syria, Assir said that Assad’s regime is slaughtering its people with the endless support of the Iranians while Western nations including the USA limit their reactions to condemnations and riots.

“Enough lies and may God punish such acts”, Assir stressed.
