Education Minister: Academic year to resume on May 28, Brevet exams cancelled
Minister of education Tareq al-Majzoub said on Friday that the current academic year will resume starting May 28 until the end of July.

The minister’s comments were made during a press conference at the ministry’s headquarter whereby  he said that the students will take a two-month summer break for the new academic year to begin in October, 2020.

He also noted that it was possible for universities, technical institutes, and official exam classes to teach six days a week.

He also stressed that the distance learning would remain until the end of May for elementary 1, 2, and 3 after which the summer vacation begins.

As for the rest of the classes, the remaining part of the academic will be delivered on a “part-time” basis as of June 11, 2020, after reduction of the required curricula for each class.

Al-Majzoub also explained that Brevet (grade 9) students would be given certificates “provided that they complete the academic year from May 28 until the end of July.”

“As for the free official exam applicants, they will sit for the official exams as they will not be canceled,” the Minister
added.

The minister concluded by saying announcing that further statements will be issued next week for details and updates.
