Sleiman says no to buffer zones between Lebanon and Syria
President Michel Sleiman said Friday that the unanimous approval of the national dialogue committee’s members on Baabda’s declaration in regards to the immunization of Lebanon from the surrounding regional turmoil has spared the country dire consequences.

During his meeting with ambassadors of European countries, the president strongly rejected the establishment of buffer zones between Lebanon and Syria, adding that the Lebanese Armed Forces have been tasked with controlling borders and preventing the smuggling of weapons and the infiltration of insurgents. Sleiman stressed that Syria’s shelling and violations of Lebanese border towns must come to an end.
