Sleiman from Argentina: I do not think that Syria aims at creating troubles in Lebanon

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman said on Thursday that he does not think that Syria is currently aiming at creating troubles in Lebanon, noting that Syria "has its own troubles and can barely deal with them."              

He called for preventing the Syrian situation from affecting the Lebanese people, adding that "during the dialogue session we have agreed to keep a neutral stance, by which we should not allow any power to turn Lebanon into a launchpad against Syria".           

In a speech he delivered before Argentinean journalists of Lebanese origins, Sleiman stressed that "just as the Lebanese security forces are required to prevent the launch of any operations against Syria, the Syrian army also has the duty to thwart any shells targeting Lebanese territory."             

In this context, Sleiman called on the Syrian authorities to solve the crisis by ending violence and initiating dialogue.                  

Commenting on the presence of Free Syrian Army members in the North, Sleiman denied this fact, pointing that the Lebanese Army is assuming the responsibility of arresting anyone transporting arms to fight against Syria.
