Harb holds press conference, calls for mobilizing the case of MP Toueni’s assassination
In the midst of the Syrian mire and its repercussions on the Lebanese scene, the Al-Arabiya report issued recently and which allegedly exposes new information pertaining to the assassination of MP Gebran Toueni seems to have added fuel to the fire.

The report accuses Hezbollah as being the culprit of the crime, by orders of the Syrian regime and has consequently  ignited both reactions from the resistance party and opposition members.

In this context, on behalf of the Toueni family MP Boutros Harb held a press conference from the An-Nahar offices in Down Town Beirut, on Tuesday calling on the Judiciary to mobilize the case file related to the late MP’s assassination.

“We presented to the judicial authorities all the evidence related to the assassination of late MP Gebran Toueini,” Harb stressed.

“The reports presented by the al-Arabiya cannot be ignored due to the connotations linked to the assassination crime,” he added.

“We issued a memorandum to arrest 2 Syrian officers to interrogate them for the validity of the information presented in the report. We will not preempt the interrogation process, and will not condemn any person before the end of the investigations,” he said.

"On behalf of the heirs of Toueini, a personal claim was raised on Tuesday against the 2 Syrian officials whose names were mentioned in the al-Arabiya report."

MP Nayla Toueini was also present at the press conference and for her part reiterated all the points Harb mentioned, adding that their "intentions for the exposing of the culprits is neither political nor of an opportunist nature, but instead is a right."

“Hezbollah should practice policies that would distance it from accusatory remarks. We will call that MP Toueni’s case be added to that of the assassination of late PM Rafik Hariri in the Special Tribunal for Lebanon,” they concluded.
