REPORT: Aoun's alleged assassination attempt falsified

A report on the investigations concerning the shooting which was said to have targeted MP Michel Aoun’s 'fake' convoy in the city of Sidon, noted that there was no shooting and that the car exposed before the media in Rabieh was shot around 4 months in Mallouleh, Tripoli.            

The information included in the report confirms four facts:                           

- Last June, during Aoun’s visit to Zahle, the BMW X5 which was shot, was detected in the MP’s convoy and had the bullet mark in the same place. A security forces member reported that the driver told him that the car was shot in the North.                 

- The car’s owner, Nadim Kanaan, works at SIDEM Aluminum copany in Zouk Mkayel. Apparently he told his colleagues that his car was shot in the North months ago. The colleagues confirmed this fact to the investigators.                              

- The car’s owner declared that he is affiliated with the Free Patriotic Movement and began working in Aoun’s convoy a year ago, confirming that his car was hit in Mallouleh 4 months ago during the Tripoli clashes.                   

- The car’s owner reported that the day following the incident targeting the fictitious convoy (September 23), officials at Aoun’s security crew asked him to bring his car to Rabieh, adding that he was surprised when his X5 was exposed before the media with security members saying that it was shot in Sidon.                  

Consequently, Nadim Kanaan gave his testimony following a judicial warrant issued by Prosecutor of the South Judge Samih al-Hajj. Kanaan’s words matched the information included in the technical report issued after examining the car, leading to the conclusion that the car was shot 4 months ago in the North.
